About Slaithwaite in West Yorkshire

Slaithwaite is a small town in West Yorkshire, England. It is situated in the Colne Valley on the River Colne, and has a population of around 4,500. The town is part of the Kirklees borough, and is twinned with the town of Marsciano in Italy.

Slaithwaite was originally a small hamlet, but grew rapidly in the Industrial Revolution due to the abundance of coal and water in the area. The town became known for its textile industry, and at one time had over 60 mills. The town also had a large number of public houses, as well as several churches and chapels.

In recent years, Slaithwaite has undergone something of a renaissance, with many of its old mills and factories being converted into apartments and office space. The town now has a thriving arts and music scene, and is home to several independent shops and cafes. There is also a monthly farmers' market, which sells locally produced food and drink.
