Rothwell is a town in West Yorkshire, England, on the A61 between Leeds and Wakefield. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the town had a population of 21,010 at the 2011 Census.

Rothwell is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Rodewell. It was a small agricultural village until the Industrial Revolution when it became a coal mining town. The town grew rapidly in the 19th century with the opening of several coal mines and ironstone quarries. The last working mine in Rothwell closed in 1986.

Today Rothwell is a commuter town for Leeds and Wakefield. It has a variety of shops and businesses, including a weekly market. There are several schools in the town, as well as a sixth form college. Rothwell is also home to Leeds United Football Club's training ground.
