About Pontefract in West Yorkshire

Pontefract is a historic town in West Yorkshire, England, near the A1 (M) and the M62 motorway. The town is the administrative centre of the City of Wakefield, and has a population of 28,250 (2011). Pontefract's motto is Post mortem patris pro filio, Latin for "After the death of the father, stand up for the son", a reference to English Civil War Royalist leader Sir Thomas Fairfax, 3rd Baron Fairfax of Cameron.
