About Ossett in West Yorkshire
Ossett is a town in West Yorkshire, England. It is situated between Wakefield, Dewsbury and Leeds. The town has a population of 21,674 according to the 2011 census. 
Ossett is built on a hill above the River Calder and has a history dating back to the Anglo-Saxon era. The name is thought to mean "settlement by the stream". In the Domesday Book of 1086, the town was recorded as Oslet and had a population of around 100. 
The town grew rapidly in the Industrial Revolution of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, with several textile mills being built. The town's main industry is now engineering, with firms such as JCB, GKN and Timet UK having factories in the area. 
Ossett is twinned with Büdingen in Germany and Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte in France.
