Horsforth is a town in West Yorkshire, England. It is situated south-west of Leeds city centre, on the A65 road. The town has a population of 21,594 according to the 2011 census.
Horsforth was historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. The town is mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book as "Horseforde".
The town's name is derived from Old English and means "the ford by the horse-track".
Horsforth was a centre for the woollen industry in the 16th and 17th centuries. The town's main industry is now engineering and manufacturing.
Horsforth is home to a number of schools, including Horsforth School, an 11-18 mixed comprehensive school; St James's Catholic High School, a voluntary aided 11-18 mixed comprehensive school; Horsforth Newlaithes Primary School, a primary school; and Horsforth Featherbank Primary School, a primary school.
The town has a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. There are also several parks and green spaces, including Woodhouse Moor, a large park in the centre of the town.
