The village has a church, Horsted Keynes Parish Church, which is part of the Diocese of Chichester. The church dates from the 12th century and is a Grade I listed building.

The village is home to Horsted Keynes railway station, which is on the Arun Valley Line. The station is served by Southern trains, and has direct services to London Victoria, London Bridge and Horsham.
Horsted Keynes was originally a small hamlet in the parish of Cuckfield. The name Horsted Keynes comes from the Old English words for 'horse' and 'settlement'. In the 12th century, a church was built in the village and Horsted Keynes became a parish in its own right.
In the 19th century, the village grew rapidly as a result of the coming of the railway. Horsted Keynes railway station was opened in 1867, and the village became a popular destination for day-trippers from London.
