Livingston is a town in West Lothian, Scotland. It is the fourth largest town in the Lothians, with a population of about 14,500. Livingston was designated a new town in 1962, and since then has been one of Scotland's fastest-growing towns. It is situated 15 miles (24 km) west of Edinburgh and 30 miles (48 km) east of Glasgow. Livingston is the largest settlement in West Lothian, and the only town in the county.
Livingston is a relatively young town, having been founded in 1962 as a New Town. The area around Livingston was previously rural, but the construction of the new town led to a rapid increase in population and development. The town now has a wide range of amenities, including shops, schools, leisure facilities, and business parks. Livingston is also home to two universities, the University of West Scotland and Edinburgh Napier University.
Livingston has good transport links, being situated close to the M8 motorway and having its own railway station with regular services to Edinburgh and Glasgow. The town is also served by Edinburgh Airport, which is located just 10 miles (16 km) away.
