About Blairgowrie in Perth and Kinross
Blairgowrie is a town in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It is situated on the River Ericht, 10 miles (16 km) north of Perth. Blairgowrie was created a burgh of barony in 1611, and a police burgh in 1865. The town expanded rapidly during the 19th century with the growth of the flax and jute industries, and became a resort for tourists from Edinburgh and Glasgow. The town is now a commuter town for Perth.
The name Blairgowrie means "plain of Gowrie", or "the broad plain". Historically, Blairgowrie was part of the county of Perthshire. The town was an important centre for the linen industry, and later for jute and flax. The town's growth during the Industrial Revolution was spurred by the nearby River Ericht, which provided power for the mills.
The town is now a popular tourist destination, with many shops, restaurants and cafes. There are also several golf courses in the area.
