About Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire

Milford Haven is a town and community in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It is situated on the north side of the Milford Haven Waterway, an estuary forming a natural harbour which is the UK's second largest, after Dover. The town has a population of 12,830.

The town was founded in 1790 on the north side of the Milford Haven estuary. It was originally named "Haven" after the natural harbour. The town's name was changed to "Milford" in 1823, to distinguish it from other places with the same name.

The port of Milford Haven is the UK's largest energy port and the fourth largest in Europe. The port handles around 33 million tonnes of cargo each year, including oil, gas, coal, containers and roll-on/roll-off traffic.

The town is also home to the UK's largest fishing fleet and a number of fish processing factories. The town has several marinas and a large leisure boatyard.

Milford Haven is twinned with Brest in France and Bremerhaven in Germany.
