About Ponteland in Northumberland
Ponteland is a town in Northumberland, England. The town is situated on the River Pont, from which it gets its name, and is about 10 miles (16 km) north of Newcastle upon Tyne. Ponteland is the largest settlement in the administrative borough of Ponteland, which also includes the villages of Heddon-on-the-Wall, Stamfordham and Matfen.
The town has a population of about 5,000 people. It is a popular commuter town for people working in Newcastle. There are several primary schools and a secondary school in the town. Ponteland also has a variety of shops and businesses, as well as a leisure centre and a golf course.
The origins of the town can be traced back to the Roman period, when a fort was built on Hadrian's Wall. The fort was later abandoned, but a settlement grew up around it and became known as Ponteland. The town continued to grow throughout the Middle Ages and became an important market town.
In recent years, Ponteland has undergone something of a regeneration, with new housing developments and improved facilities. The town is now an attractive place to live and work, and is popular with families and commuters alike.
