Northumberland is a county in the northeast of England. The county town is Morpeth. The county is bordered to the north by the Scottish Borders, to the west by Cumbria, to the south by County Durham and Tyne and Wear, and to the east by the North Sea. Northumberland is the northernmost county in England.The county has a population of just over 320,000 people and covers an area of almost 2,000 square miles. Northumberland is a largely rural county with a diverse landscape including coastline, moorland, hills and forests. The kingdom was later conquered by the Vikings and then the Normans.
