About Norwich in Norfolk
Norwich is a historic city in Norfolk, England. It lies on the River Wensum in East Anglia and is the regional administrative centre for East Anglia and the county town of Norfolk. With a population of 141,300 it is the fourth most populous city in the region. Norwich is the capital of the county of Norfolk and is considered the fine city, or fen city, due to its extensive water ways and marshes. The city has an Anglo-Saxon history and was once the capital of East Anglia, a kingdom which included modern day Norfolk, Suffolk and parts of Cambridgeshire and Essex. The city has a number of historic buildings and landmarks including Norwich Cathedral, Castle Museum & Art Gallery and Elm Hill, a medieval street with timber-framed buildings. Norwich is also home to two universities, the University of East Anglia and Norwich University of the Arts, and a number of schools and colleges.
