Rosewell is a former coal mining town, and was once one of the largest mining towns in Scotland. The town has a number of historical buildings, including the ruins of the old mining hospital, and the remains of the mining pithead. There are also a number of parks and open spaces in the town, including the Rosewell House Gardens, and the Midlothian Country Park.
