About Midlothian
Midlothian is a historic county in the Scottish Borders, lying to the south of Edinburgh. It was formerly known as Edinburghshire, and is named after the old Kingdom of Midlothian. The county town is Dalkeith, and other major towns include Newtongrange, Loanhead and Bonnyrigg. Midlothian is bounded by the Firth of Forth to the north and west, and the River Tweed to the south.
The county has a long history, dating back to the early Middle Ages. It was an important region in the Kingdom of Scotland, and later became a county of the Kingdom of England. The county was also home to a number of important battles, including the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh, which was fought between the English and Scottish armies in 1547.
Today, Midlothian is a thriving county with a population of around 86,000. It is a popular tourist destination, with attractions such as Rosslyn Chapel and Dalkeith Country Park. The county is also home to a number of businesses, including Edinburgh Woollen Mill and Lothian Buses.
