About Rainhill in Merseyside
Rainhill is a town in Merseyside, England, located between Prescot and St Helens. The town is best known for the Rainhill Trials of 1829, which were a series of competitions to find the best locomotive design to power the new Liverpool and Manchester Railway. George Stephenson's Rocket was declared the winner and went on to haul the first passenger train on the railway.
Today, Rainhill is a commuter town with good transport links to Liverpool and Manchester. There are a number of primary and secondary schools in the town, as well as a sixth form college. There are several parks and green spaces, and the town centre has a good selection of shops and businesses.
