About Coalville in Leicestershire
Coalville is a town in Leicestershire, England. The population at the 2011 census was 34,575. It lies on the A511 trunk road between Leicester and Burton upon Trent, close to the M1 and M42 motorways. Coalville is twinned with Oberhausen in Germany and Saint-Amand-les-Eaux in France.
Coalville is a former coal mining town and was an urban district until 1974 when it became a municipal borough. North West Leicestershire District Council now has its administrative headquarters in the town. Coalville is the largest town in North West Leicestershire, and has a history of coal mining which dates back to Roman times.
The town is served by East Midlands Airport, which is located just outside of the town. Coalville is also home to the National Space Centre, which is a major tourist attraction.
The town has a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs, as well as a theatre and a cinema. There are also several primary and secondary schools in Coalville, as well as a further education college.
