Shotts is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is situated on the Shotts Burn, a tributary of the River Clyde, and has a population of around 8,840. The town has a long history dating back to the 12th century, when it was first mentioned in a charter. It was an important centre for coal mining and steel production in the 19th and 20th centuries, and was also home to the Shotts Iron Works. Today, the town is a commuter town for Glasgow, and has a number of shops and businesses. There are also several primary and secondary schools in the town.
