Rutherglen is a town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The town is located on the River Clyde, in the south-west of the Glasgow conurbation. Rutherglen was formerly a burgh, and was granted royal burgh status in 1826. The town has a population of around 19,000 people, and is the administrative centre of the South Lanarkshire council area. The town is home to a number of historic buildings, including Rutherglen Castle, and is also the site of the annual Rutherglen Reforming the Kirk festival.
