About Airdrie in Lanarkshire

Airdrie is a town in Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is situated on high ground on the north side of the River Clyde, in the Monkland Plateau. It has a population of about 37,000 people and is twinned with Motherwell. It was formerly a mining town, but the last coal mine closed in 2002. The town has a number of primary and secondary schools, as well as a further education college. There are several parks and a leisure centre. The town also has a football team, Airdrieonians, who play in the Scottish League One.
