Ramsbottom is a town in Greater Manchester, England, situated on the River Irwell in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury. Historically part of Lancashire, it is approximately 10 miles (16 km) north of Bury and 15 miles (24 km) east of Bolton. Ramsbottom was noted for its textile industry, particularly the production of cotton and silk. The town's main railway station was closed in 1966 as part of the Beeching Axe, but reopened in 1987. Ramsbottom is twinned with the German town of Schmallenberg.
