Hammersmith is a town in Greater London, England, located on the north bank of the River Thames. It is in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and is bordered by Chiswick to the west and Fulham to the east. The population of Hammersmith was 11,752 in 2001.
Hammersmith is served by two London Underground stations, Hammersmith station on the Circle and District lines, and Hammersmith & City line. The town is also served by a number of bus routes.
Hammersmith Bridge, which crosses the Thames to Barnes, was built in 1827 and is one of the oldest suspension bridges in England. The bridge was closed to motor traffic in April 2020 due to safety concerns.
The town has a number of parks and open spaces, including Ravenscourt Park, Furnival Gardens, Margravine Cemetery and Wormholt Park.
Hammersmith is home to a number of schools and colleges, including Latymer Upper School, St Paul's Girls' School, Godolphin and Latymer School and Hammersmith Academy.
The town has a number of pubs, bars and restaurants, as well as a number of shops and businesses.
