West Mersea is a town on the coast of Essex, England. It is situated on the Colne Estuary, about 3 miles (5 km) north of Colchester. The town has a population of about 5,000 people.
The town is twinned with Saint-Pierre-Quiberon in Brittany, France.
The town's name is derived from the Old English for 'west marsh', in reference to the area of saltmarsh to the west of the town. The town's motto is 'More than just a pretty place by the sea'.
West Mersea is a popular tourist destination, with its beach, yacht club and birdwatching opportunities. The town also has a number of shops and restaurants, as well as a museum dedicated to the history of the town.
