About Bridgend
Bridgend County Borough is a county in Wales. It is bordered by the counties of Carmarthenshire to the west, Rhondda Cynon Taf to the north, and Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan to the east. The county town is Bridgend, and other towns include Maesteg and Ogmore-by-Sea. The county has a population of 139,200 (2011 census).
The county borough was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972. The county borough was originally part of the administrative county of Glamorgan, but it became a separate county in its own right in 1996, when Glamorgan was divided into three unitary authorities: Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Cardiff.
The area covered by the county borough includes the former towns of Bridgend, Maesteg and Ogmore-by-Sea, as well as the villages of Coity, Nant-y-Moel, Brackla, Brynmenyn, Pencoed and Bettws.
The landscape of Bridgend County Borough is varied. To the west of the county borough is the rural area of Carmarthenshire, with its rolling hills and valleys. To the north is Rhondda Cynon Taf, with its urban centres of Pontypridd and Llwynypia. To the east is Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, and to the south is the Vale of Glamorgan.
The coastline of Bridgend County Borough includes some beautiful beaches, such as Ogmore-by-Sea, Porthcawl and Newton Beach. There are also a number of coastal towns and villages, such as Porthcawl, Pencoed, Pyle and Kenfig.
The county borough has a number of tourist attractions, including Coity Castle, Bryngarw Country Park, Margam Country Park and Kenfig Nature Reserve.
