About Cranfield in Bedfordshire
Cranfield is a small town located in the county of Bedfordshire, England. It is situated in the south-east of the county, close to the border with Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. The town is home to Cranfield University, one of the leading universities for postgraduate study in the UK.
The town itself has a population of around 4,000 people and is known for its rural charm and peaceful atmosphere. The town centre is full of traditional buildings, such as the Grade I listed St Mary's Church, as well as a number of independent shops and cafes. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and offers plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling and horse riding.
Cranfield has a rich history, with evidence of settlement dating back to the Iron Age. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book and was once an important market town in the area. Today, it remains an important centre for education and research, with Cranfield University providing a range of courses from engineering to business management.
The town also has a number of attractions for visitors to enjoy. These include the Cranfield Aviation Heritage Centre, which houses an impressive collection of aircraft from World War II; the Cranfield Watermill Museum; and Woburn Safari Park which is just a short drive away. There are also plenty of pubs and restaurants to choose from, as well as some lovely country walks nearby.
