About Alford in Aberdeenshire

Alford is a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland with a population of around 3,500 people. It is located in the east of the county, near the River Don. The town has a long history and was first recorded in a charter of King William the Lion in 1178. It grew in importance as a market town and was made a burgh of barony in 1411. In the 19th century, it became a centre for the manufacture of linen and tweed. Today, Alford is a popular tourist destination, with its historic buildings and scenic location. It is also home to the Alford Silver Band, one of the oldest brass bands in Scotland.
